Cryotherapy for Muscle Recovery

by | Mar 10, 2020 | The Rubin Chiropractic Health Center Blog

One of the most important parts of any workout is muscle recovery. The faster your muscles recover from the workout, the healthier and stronger those muscles will be. It seems as though someone is always touting a new method of speeding up muscle recovery. Some of them really are plausible, and one of the best is cryotherapy.

What Is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a chamber that you are enclosed in except for your head. When you step into the chamber, the machine cools it rapidly to about -184 degrees Fahrenheit. You only remain in the chamber for a few minutes after it reaches this extremely cold temperature, then you step out. It sounds extreme and intense. But it isn’t horribly uncomfortable, and it can have great benefits.

What Cryotherapy Does

When the body reaches extremely cold temperatures, it shocks the body into a fight or flight response. Blood and heat rushes to your core to protect your organs. When you step out of the extreme cold and your body temperature suddenly starts rising back up, the blood rushes outward to your extremities. This is what relieves muscle soreness and aids in muscle recovery.

Getting Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is still a fairly new trend. You won’t find cryotherapy chambers easily. Some high-end gyms have installed cryo-chambers for their members to use, but most people do not have ready access. Thankfully, you can come to us for cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy is part of our Elite Recovery Room. In addition to cryotherapy, we also offer rapid reboot compression, an infrared sauna, and a power plate. Contact us today for more information about our Elite Recovery services or to schedule your appointment.
