Reducing Pain and Inflammation with Compression

Do you cope with chronic pain and inflammation? Many people with arthritis or other joint conditions suffer from frequent spikes in pain and inflammation, which can limit mobility and become unbearable. One of the most important ways to reduce pain and inflammation is with compression. Here is how compression helps you and why it is important.

What Is compression?

Compression is the practice of wrapping or binding an inflamed area of the body to reduce swelling and inflammation. At home you might use an ACE Bandage or other elastic or static wrap, which you can adjust accordingly for a mix of comfort and stability. In our offices we use compression boots that treat most of the leg with intense compression therapy.

Why does compression actually do?

When you apply compression to an injured or pained joint, it restricts blood flow and other fluids. Restricting this flow will help reduce swelling, which in turn reduces pain and inflammation and may improve mobility. It is important to adjust the bandage as swelling increases or decreases to maintain comfort and circulation.

If you are interested in trying our compression boots as a complementary therapy during your visit, let us know when you call to schedule your appointment.
