Did you know that there is more than one type of Pilates? There are actually three different Pilates styles, and each one is suitable for a different ability level and body type. If you think that Pilates are too difficult, it could be that you are trying the wrong style. Here are the three different styles that you can choose from.

Fletcher Pilates

Ron Fletcher is a dancer that studied under Joseph Pilates and is a master instructor in the exercise. Fletcher Pilates are similar to classical Pilates, but he was the first to move Pilates into a standing position. This type of Pilates also focuses on percussive breathing and uses what he refers to as “towelwork.” This is one of the more difficult styles of Pilates.

Winsor Pilates

Mari Winsor is a dancer that studied Pilates under a first-generation teacher, meaning that she studied under someone who learned directly from Joseph Pilates. This type of Pilates is similar to classic Pilates, but focuses on continuous movement. This improves the cardiovascular benefits of the exercise.

Stott Pilates

This is a little-known type of Pilates that is very good for people with lower ability levels or physical limitations. While traditional Pilates focuses on maintaining a straight spine, this type of Pilates focuses on maintaining the natural curve of the spine. This type of Pilates also focuses on the whole body to stabilize muscles and joints. Stott Pilates are great for those with physical limitations because they have preparatory exercises and modifications that allow anyone to do the exercise.
