The spine is made up of vertebrae that are stacked vertically from the pelvis to the top of the neck. These bones are aligned to stabilize your back and support a broad range of bodily functions. So, when your spine is out of alignment, it may throw off many aspects of your overall health.
There are multiple signs that indicate your spine may be out of alignment, including:
Visible Misalignment
When you look in the mirror, you may be able to see that your spine is out of alignment. If this is the case, you may notice that:
- Your head tilts to one side
- Your ears and/or shoulders aren’t even
- You’re leaning to one side
- One foot is rotated outward more than the other
- The hips aren’t centered
Back Pain, Joint Pain, and/or Headaches
Back and joint pain and chronic headaches, are common symptoms of misalignment of the C1 and C2 vertebrae. If you’re experiencing these symptoms, it’s important to visit your chiropractor to determine if a spinal misalignment is a cause. Your chiropractor can then put your spine back into alignment to prevent long-term spinal issues, such as a herniated disc or degenerative disc disease.
Your Shoes Don’t Wear Out Evenly
If your spine is out of alignment, you may walk abnormally as a result. This can cause one shoe to wear out sooner than the other. If you’re noticing that this is occurring repeatedly, it’s worth seeing your chiropractor in order to correct the misalignment before it gets worse.
