No one ever wants to be in a car accident, but the fact of the matter is that it is highly likely that you will have at least one fender bender during your lifetime. Auto accidents happen on a fairly frequent basis. You might be tempted to go about your day and not visit the doctor, especially if the accident was minor, but there are some excellent reasons you should seek treatment after an auto accident.

Delayed Reaction

When you have an auto accident, your body may not be able to feel pain right away. The shock of the experience can release enormous amounts of adrenaline and endorphins that block the pain. But a few days later, you might start feeling all kinds of aches and pains. This delayed reaction can often make people initially think that they were not injured. If you wait until the pain sets in to seek treatment, the condition could become worse. It is a better idea to seek treatment right away, as soon as you can after the accident.

Whiplash

The most common injury from car accidents is whiplash. Whiplash occurs when the head is whipped from front to back, as often happens in rear end and front end collisions. Whiplash by itself is not necessarily a major injury if it is treated quickly. The longer the condition goes untreated, the more likely you are to seriously injure yourself. You should first see a doctor, but a chiropractor can realign your spine right after a car accident to try to minimize the effects of the whiplash.

Other Reasons

Besides your health, there are other reasons that you should seek treatment right after an auto accident. If you wait to treat your injuries, you could have difficulty getting compensation from the insurance company for your medical bills. You will also want to seek treatment right away because if you are injured, you may need to be on restricted duty at work to avoid the injury from getting worse.
